January 2022 - How it went

(originally posted on 1 Feb 2022)

I think it is important to have goals, specific and concrete. Not just vague goals, like "I want to publish a novel", but goals for each step to get there. So more like, "complete ms draft", "complete ms edit", "send ms to beta readers", etc.

So, I set goals for 2022 and for January. I did not meet all of my January goals, but I accomplished some, and I am good with that.

One goal was to track my hours. Check. I worked 24 days for 69 hours on writing notes, drafting, and editing. It could have been more if I hadn't needed to get sinus surgery and experience an uncomfortable recovery. C'est la vie.

Another goal was to finish editing Gem Finder and send it to a beta reader for feedback. Check. I should have feedback next week.

Another goal was to finish editing Ancient History. This goal I did not meet, because the story needed a reimagining. Instead, I wrote a new outline and am currently rewriting it. I am much happier with the new rendition.

And my last goal was to maintain my blog and social media. Meh. The blog is a challenge. I feel like I could do better, by sitting down to commit some time to write. Social media is a little easier because I can engage at random, in between all else (much to the annoyance of hubby). Twitter has become my platform of choice, so if you want to engage with me, you are welcome to join me.

Goals for February are:

  • Get Gem Finder published.

  • Edit Ancient History

  • Start a new story (I have a few ideas percolating already).

So here goes!
